Hannah Wept, Sarah Laughed
Apr 29 2011 in Featured Blogs & Websites by Nancy
In honor of NIAW there was no doubt as to who our featured blog of the week HAD to be.
Hannah Wept, Sarah Laughed authored by one of our favorite people: Keiko Zolli
We asked her several questions for this post:
What has going through infertility taught you about yourself?
Infertility has taught me that sometimes you have to course-correct life in ways that never occurred to you days before the diagnosis but looking back since then, make complete sense now. I’ve learned that I’m resourceful. My infertility has also strangely enough made me a stronger woman, even when I have felt completely torn and worn down. I’ve learned that I’m resilient. My infertility has taught me that I’m not alone in this vast community, even when I have felt most isolated. I’ve learned that I owe it to this community to give back in whatever ways I can.
What is your own personal favorite post?
I’ve thought about this question and it is truly hard to pick just one. I’ll default to my What IF post that features my short video, as it has had a profound effect on not just my life in making it, but in thousands of others’ lives by watching and sharing it online.
What was the motivation behind starting your blog?
I originally started my blog as an informational resource about my diagnosis and our journey to share with our friends and family. I blogged under a pseudonym but after making my video, and thus my story and name public, I began blogging under my real identity. My blog has morphed from an informational resource to an outlet for emotional and spiritual healing to now a motivational support and advocacy resource for others.
What led you to become so involved with the Infertility Community and with Resolve?
To be quite frank, advocating for change, awareness, research, etc., has helped fill the time as we wait to build our own family. It’s easy for me to be mired down in all of the negative aspects of the infertility experience that it was important for me to channel all of this into something positive. I became involved with RESOLVE because they were my first informational and support resource, so I felt that I could help others and give back by volunteering with them on both local and national levels. I keep doing this work to inspire and challenge others to shape an otherwise devastating disease into positive action for this greater patient community.
Visiting Hannah Wept, Sarah Laughed is an absolute must, especially if you are are living with infertility.
